Komcast 12 – Zoe Lyons, Ben Howard & The Space Man – Wayne Imms by Komcast
KOMCAST 12 -Zoe Lyons, Ben Howard and The Space
As the Komcast celebrates it’s first birthday, we have hostess with the mostess, Zoe Lyons, fresh off the NYC red eye flight to give us the lowdown on her impending 40th birthday gig she plans to go large on at her regular Komedia Bent Double night. She also reveals her big food fetishes that have seen her bloat her way around the UK this year.
Devon singer songwriter, Ben Howard, is also in the house this month, giving us the latest on his debut album, how he learnt his craft and the kind of music his parents inflicted upon him as a child growing up.
Also on board this month, The Space Head honcho Wayne Imms reveals exactly how he lands big names in the business for his monthly media and entertainment shows.
KOMCAST 11 – Willy Returns, Jill Edwards talks us through her comedy classes and The Boy With Tape on his Face removes the Gaffer Tape for a chat
Komcast 11: The Boy with Tape on his face, Willy Mason and Jill Edwards by Komcast
Edinburgh have been raving about Kiwi comedia Sam Wills and who can blame them? Not many can be so funny without actually uttering a single word.
In fact, he was forced to slap gaffer tape across his lips after trying to do a silent show and getting too tempted to talk . Find out more about the idea behind his new found mutedness and what’s in store for his show this month in this months podcast.
Also on board this month we hear from Jill Edwards about her Edinburgh scouting trip for Comic Boom in the city and some inspiring stories from her workshops.
We also get the lowdown from Willy Mason on who he is loving right now on the British folk music scene. The US star played a sold out show at Komedia last year and this month he is back and ready to rip the roof off….
Komcast 010: Komedia’s Stephen Grant, Angela barnes and Marilyn Monroe by Komcast
KOMCAST 10 – KRATER EXPANDS – WE HEAR FROM THE BRAINS BEHIND IT - STEPHEN GRANT
So as Krater grows to five shows a week, with the addition of the new “school night” on Thursdays, we hear from compere Stephen Grant, who is now working on his quads as he legs it up and down the stairs to “do the double” some nights.
In fact that is the only reason they expanded the residency…to get Stephen in shape for his summer hollybobs! The good news is, it’s working. He is back in his size 8 trousers and has just bought a new mankini to celebrate.
We also hear from New Comedy Award winner and Brighton local lady, Angela Barnes. She is actually from Maidstone, but entered the heat stage at Komedia and was plucked out of 600 potentials to take the title. All this after graduating with flying colours from the Jill Edwards comedy course at the venue.
Marilyn is also going to be swinging through the venue on 12 August, now she is Alive again that is. Yes, she is back from the dead and to all extents and purposes is on very fine form indeed and up for “some mischief”. That is what she told me anyway in this months Komcast.
This month we talk to Chas, the piano man half, of the legends that are Chas & Dave about their reunion tour that hit Komedia last month.
Chas says the double show billing was “wild” and left him with arms like “lead” after more than three solid hours tinkling the ivories!
U.S comedian and regular Komedia guest, Scott Capurro also features in this months Komcast and fully “opens up” about what it’s like to play to the British crowd.
We also hear from the Ethio-Jazz man, Mulatu Astatke, on how his musical roots are buried in Wales, where he studied as a boy, before meeting Ronnie Scott, amongst others in London to craft his trade as a Vibrophonist.
Finally, we preview the appearance of the hotly tipped New York Violinist and singer/songwriter Marques Toliver in a specially recorded, live track, from a session he did during last months, Great Escape Festival.

Komcast 07 – James Taylor Quartet, Shazia Mirza & John Hegley by Komcast
KOMCAST 07 – SUITED AND BOOTED
This month we hear from the James Taylor Quartet front man, James, about how he always buys his new threads in Brighton when he makes his annual trip here at the start of gig season.
In fact as you can see he picked up a beautiful outfit to make its debut as they played a sold out show at the venue earlier this month. As well as being on the cusp of unleashing a new record, James revealed he also works as a psychotherapist with patients who have slipped through the NHS net.
He reckons this helps the band keep their sound “fresh”, as his focus isn’t just on music and he has also just begun growing vegetables too!
Shazia Mirza shared her dating disaster stories and told us how she can’t seem to pull a man her own age or one that doesn’t want to ballroom dance with her.
Singing poet John Hegley, is also about to appear at Komedia this weekend, with his Animal Alphaboat show. He told me he loves his cat and sang us a song on his Brighton bought Mandolin in this months Komcast.
Plus we have an exclusive preview of The upcoming Vagina Monologues with narrator Andrea Fox.
The show is set to land at Komedia on the 29 March & 06 April. Both events raise cash for women who have suffered from domestic violence.
