Phoenix River Band’s music, a potent mix of original songs with driving beats and soulful melodies, is a style best described as ‘Atlanticana’ – a mix of Country Rock, Blues and Rock. Imagine cruising in a Cadillac with Chris Rea at the wheel, Pink Floyd and the Allman Brothers in the back, and maybe some Eagles flying overhead. Music that is rooted in the songwriting ethos of the 60s and 70s, with lyrics that fit the tales like a glove and all delivered by a band that you might think sounds like one from that period but, in truth, sound like no one but themselves.

Centred around Chris Melhuish, who writes the songs, for the most part sings them, and plays some pretty mean blues-infused guitar, is a band of the best veterans: the rhythm section of Dave Dunster on drums and Mike Pitt on bass are the heart and soul of this outfit; keyboardist Andy Allpass on organ and piano, his playing tasteful and very expert; guitarist Syd Riley plays some nicely fluid solos, a contrast to Chris’s Albert King-like style, with both playing twin lead guitar à la Wishbone Ash flawlessly; vocalists Jo Melhuish and Shelley Dunster, a great and rare contribution, blend nicely in harmony with Jo also singing lead with a very soulful voice – all of them integral to the band’s overall sound.

ALL AGES ARE WELCOME AND FOOD AND DRINK WILL BE AVAILABLE
