EDINBURGH PREVIEWS: Steve Bugeja & Carl Donnelly
Steve Bugeja was crowned the 2013 BBC Radio New Comedy Award winner. His 2015 debut solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe Day Release was met with rave reviews, described as ‘drum-tight, as if polished by a sitcom writers’ room to cram as many jokes in as humanly possible’ (Chortle). It went on for a run at Soho Theatre in 2016. He followed this up in 2016 with an equally critically acclaimed Edinburgh show entitled Unpronounceable.
Steve has appeared as a guest stand up on Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central) and on Dog Ate My Homework (CBBC). He wrote and performed in his own sketch 10 Things You Should Know As An Adult for BBC3 and starred in a viral comedy video for Lucozade alongside England footballer Harry Kane.
‘Bugeja has an eye for original comic detail that’s all his own.’ -The Guardian
‘His social nightmares make for assured comedy, and it’s easy to see why the audience listening at home voted him the BBC New Comedy Award winner of 2013. Greater things surely await’ Chortle
‘A polished hour of plentiful jokes and compelling storytelling’ The Scotsman
Carl started performing stand-up in 2005 and quickly established himself as one of the UK’s most exciting comedians. His conversational, silly sense of humour saw him win a host of awards (Chortle Best Newcomer 2007, Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2007 among others) and become a regular at all of the finest comedy clubs in the UK and Ireland.
In 2009, Carl performed his debut solo show Relax Everyone, it’s Carl Donnelly! at the Edinburgh Fringe for which he was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer. Since then, Carl has returned to Edinburgh with three further solo shows and will return with another in 2015, after his nomination in 2013 for the Fosters Comedy Award.
Don’t miss the chance to see Carl try out new material for his next Edinburgh Fringe show.
Carl has also appeared on various TV shows including Mock The Week, Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central, Dave’s One Night Stand, Stand Up for the Week, Russell Howard’s Good News,
