Neil Innes: A Very Brief Biography

Dubbed the seventh member of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Neil Innes has made people laugh, sing and think since forming The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band with Viv Stanshall in the early 60s, while still at Goldsmiths College in London.

In 1968 the Bonzos worked with Monty Python on the TV series Do Not Adust Your Set and  Neil continued to collaborate with them musically, on stage and on film throughout the 70s and 80s.

A talented artist, musician and raconteur Neil wrote over one hundred episodes of the long – running children’s TV series Raggy Dolls, after writing and performing his own hugely popular TV series The Innes Book of Records in 1979 – 1981.

In 1975 he worked with Eric idle to form The Rutles – a hilarious musical parody of the Beatles story – The Legend That Would Last A Lunchtime.

Somehow amongst all this Neil has managed to write a humourous book on economics Gloom Doom and very Funny Money and write and present a TV series on the English language called Away With Words.

Since the mid ‘90s Neil has  entertained enthusiastic audiences with his show sometimes solo and sometimes with a small band in America, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and the UK with a mixture of music, comedy, and comment. ‘Impossible to label’, as he says himself, ‘If I could describe what it is I do on stage in a sentence or two, , then there would be no need for me to go on stage and do it’.
