Rust & Stardust: We Shall Be Monsters

Rust & Stardust: We Shall Be Monsters

Part of Brighton Science Festival

17–. Ernest Frankenstein’s young wife Clara is desperate to have a child – even if she has to make it herself. When she discovers Ernest’s brother Victor’s journal telling of his monstrous experiments and creation of a creature, Clara sees a solution.

A tender Gothic tale of motherhood and the feminine Frankenstein, with live and shadow puppetry, We Shall Be Monsters is part of Brighton Science Festival and responds to its 2018 themes of designer babies and genetic engineering.

Rust & Stardust is a Sussex-based puppet theatre company. Our work focuses on new writing, puppetry, animation and music. We’re passionate about stories and storytelling, folklore and mythology, and all things homegrown and handmade.

Recent work includes The Wild Man of Orford (Brighton/ Edinburgh Fringe 2015), Seeing Stars (Brighton Science Festival 2016), Three Ribbons (Horror Fest 2016), The Green Children of Woolpit (rural touring in 2017 and 2018), and Dr Dee’s Daughter & The Philosopher’s Stone (Brighton Early Music Festival 2016, Newbury Spring Festival 2017, The Stables Milton Keynes, Beverley Early Music Festival, and on tour in 2017.)
