If you’re on the hunt for your new favourite wine, look no further than your doorstep. Produced in vineyards across the country, England’s diverse (and delicious!) selections of wine have often been overlooked, but English Wine Week is on a mission to change that. This year the celebrations will be taking place between 21-29 June, just as the vineyards begin to flower, giving you the perfect excuse to drink regionally produced wine to your heart’s desire all week!
Pair a night of great comedy with Balfour 1503 Classic Curvée
Located in the luscious Kent countryside and operating since their first vineyard was planted in 2002, Balfour Winery is one of the big dogs in the English wine scene. In 2007, they became the first English wine to win a gold medal and the trophy at the International Wine Challenge, and since then they have continued to produce an impressive array of sparkling wines that would compete with even your favourite champagne! Balfour’s winemaking philosophy is built upon ideas of passion, precision, and care – each batch of their wine is individually crafted from carefully chosen grapes, capturing the unique and fresh taste that we love. We think you’ll agree their bubbles are perfect for any special occasion, big or small!
But, despite their untouchable reputation, what lies at the heart of Balfour is their family values. They are family-owned, with the Hush Heath Estate, that is the home to the renowned winery, having been a beloved part of the Balfour-Lynn family for three generations! All 400 acres are beautifully kept by Cathy, Stef, and Billy (aka. the Turner family), with gorgeous vineyards, apple orchards, ancient woodlands, and even wildflower meadows scattered throughout. The Balfour team has a hands-on approach, and many team members have generational ties to both the winery and the estate. All of their wines, including one of our resident Komedia favourites, are made by father-son duo Owen and Fergus Elias, who bring experience and innovation to create bottles for every taste. Their team’s pride and devotion creates truly great wines we just can’t get enough of!
