KOMEDIA PRIVACY NOTICE

It is important to us that you are in control of the personal information you share with us when you attend our events, sign up to our newsletter, or interact with us in any other way. We aim to be clear, honest, and open about the way we use your data, use it only in ways you should reasonably expect us to, and to stop using it should you request us to, or after you cease to engage with us for a reasonable length of time.

This statement sets out the ways in which Komedia Ltd uses your personal data (any information relating to an identified or identifiable person) and how you can hold us accountable for that.

How does Komedia collect personal data: Customer data is collected via our ticketing system (Ticketsolve, whose Privacy & Cookies policies are available here) on-line, in person at the Box Office, and over the phone. We also collect emails for the mailing list via our homepage sign-up form, through an opt in/opt out box at online checkout, and via QR codes linking to our mailing list sign up page (which are displayed on Table Talkers at events). We use email tracking to help us carry out effective marketing.

Data that can be collected: We may collect personal data from you when you book a ticket for one of our events, which may include but is not limited to:

  • Customer Name
  • Email Address
  • Telephone Number
  • Postal Address
  • Date of Birth
  • Interests (such as Comedy, Music, Theatre, Kids Shows, and other genres)

Purpose of Data collection: We will use your information for the purposes listed below under one of the following legal bases:

  • To provide a service to customers, e.g. sending tickets (e-tickets or physical tickets)
  • To inform customers of show cancellations
  • To inform individuals of special offers
  • To provide marketing communications (with consent)
  • To offer targeted advertising (with consent).

The Individual’s Rights: You have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Not to give consent
  • To withdraw consent at any time
  • To object to automated processing data for direct marketing (including targeted advertising)
  • To request rectification and/or erasure
  • To submit a Subject Access Request

Complaints procedure: All individuals have the right to make a complaint with both Komedia (via tickets@komedia.co.uk or data processor TicketSolve) or via the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) on phone number 0303 123 1113. Complaints will be responded to within 1 month of receipt.

Lawful Basis of Data Processing:

  1. Marketing Data: Komedia stores marketing data in one of two ways:
    1. After full ‘opt-in’ consent** is given, for example when an individual subscribes to our newsletter via the online sign-up form or through the ‘opt in/out’ checkbox at online checkout.
    2. On the basis of Legitimate Interest***, for example to inform existing customers of future events we believe they have a genuine interest in.

Completion of a Legitimate Interest Test – encompassing purpose, necessity, and balance – resulted in Komedia’s legitimate interest as an independent grassroots business to market our events and services to existing customers to increase ticket sales and other revenue.

This Legitimate Interest Test was carried out on 25/04/2025 and will be reviewed every six months.

  1. Ticketing Data: Komedia will collect some ticketing data on a Legitimate Interests*** basis. This is utilised for example when it would be deemed bothersome to disrupt the individual with consent during a legitimate process when they are unlikely to object, i.e. to gain consent to ask for card details when they have called to purchase a ticket, or consent to collect their home address when they are already aware the ticket will be posted to them.

Safeguards: Komedia has sought the advice of their main data holder, TicketSolve, and has reviewed their policies accordingly, in-line with GDPR regulations. Komedia has also followed the guidelines of the ICO.

Storage: No data is stored or handled outside of the EEA (European Economic Area). Ticketsolve only has EU based servers.

Child data: Komedia does not store the data of Children.

Sharing Data: Komedia will only share data with another organisation on the rare occasion that a show moves to a different venue and we need to transfer customer data over to the new venue or the promoter of the show. Promoters will not receive customer data under any other circumstances unless the customer has explicitly consented to this.

Data Retention Policy: Ticketing and Marketing Data will be kept for as long as the data is deemed valid, with a maximum period of 100 years, or until a request is made by the individual to cease the storage of their data.

Review: This policy was amended 25/04/2025 and will be reviewed annually or whenever any changes are made to Data Protection legislation.
