JOY. CONCERTS PRESENT:

Phildel + Support

It was one of the stranger stories in the music world – a young girl who’d grown up in a household where music was banned, her burgeoning interest confined to stolen moments at the practice room piano and a single dance music CD stashed in her desk at school. Phildel Ng lived for the bulk of her childhood under the rule of an abusive, strict religious stepfather, from whom she only escaped in a separation that lost her the rest of her family too. From the experience came her 2013 album, The Disappearance of the Girl, a dark breathtakingly intimate suite of songs exploring the gothic fantasies that sustained her through an unhappy time. Though written in a vacuum, Phildel’s intense piano and electronica music quickly spread to millions, sound-tracking ads for Apple, Verizon and LG. She won first place in The International Songwriting Competition with Moonsea, picked up a Cannes Lion Trophy for Beside You and has +90 million streams for her track Qi and went on to win Best Animated Music Video for track The Deep. Fast forward to 2025 and Phildel has just been featured in the landmark anthology: “Music by Women Composers” by Faber Music Publishing, described as an essential collection of women composers through the centuries – further establishing the importance of her timeless musical contributions. Her latest album “Into the Woods”, is an alluring vision of dream pop, inspired by her unique relationship with the natural sublime – which has already amassed over 3 million streams.

What people are saying...

A big Thank You to Poppy, the manager, and the rest of the team at ABBA Gold last night. She was super helpful with me and my friend, who is in a wheelchair, and made it a fantastic night that we both really enjoyed. We hope to be back again soon.

As someone who works in the live music industry, I can honestly say Komedia is one of the best mid-sized venues I have visited. It has a wonderful atmosphere, outstanding acoustics, and a team that clearly knows how to run a venue. The Great Escape is always a highlight of the music calendar, and Komedia was one of the standout venues for me this year. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Brighton, whether for live music, comedy, or other events. A truly excellent venue and one of Brighton’s cultural gems.

The team working with us on Saturday were brilliant – special thanks to Steve, our engineer, who was fantastic.

I love the venue and am grateful to you for having me back!

Staff were all very friendly and welcoming… the sound and lighting were brilliant and a great evening was had by all attending.

Great intimate live music venue. Not your usual gig beers, good selection of Lager, Cider and Ale.

I wanted to say a massive thank you for hosting my son and I in the Studio. I was so impressed by the kindness, efficiency, and professionalism of all the team at Komedia. Everything was perfect – the sound, the room, and all of the staff.

It was honestly the best concert experience I’ve had in a long time! Since being chronically ill, I’ve never felt completely welcome at venues. […] Komedia made me feel completely comfortable and confident in myself during the whole show! […] Although I traveled from London, I will most definitely be returning when I can, choosing it over London venues!

Lovely, intimate venue. Great sound system. Perfect for small concerts.

What a superb venue. I have been several times. Always a warm welcome and a safe space to enjoy the artists that are more “left field” than other more mainstream venues.

Cracking little venue, intimate, great acoustics, friendly staff, middle of town, nice beer selection, fair prices. What more could you want?

Great place to see bands. Not too big . Not too small. Excellent views plus TV screens in all areas. Disabled parking in the street behind. Good eateries locally after gig.
