As the LGBTQ+ Capital of the UK, it would be criminal to not have the best Saturday Drag Brunch around, right? Rest assured, you will be amazed by the talent of Boss and his girls!
Previous Drag Queens to have performed at Boss Brunch are Brighton’s own Glew (yes, one of Chappell Roan’s London support acts), Inga ‘the Winged Woman’ Rock, Tayris Mongardi (Big Drag Pageant Champion ’21), and alien queen Alik. Each show is hosted by the one and only Boss himself, a dancer, presenter, and compère extraordinaire known for The Box Soho and Fat Tony’s Full Fat. He’s also performed with artists like Todrick Hall and WÏLES, to name but a few. Boss will keep you entertained, while our lovely staff keep your glasses and bellies full.
But who is Boss? And, most importantly, how can YOU make the most out of your Drag Brunch experience? We’ve got the answers in our exclusive interview with Boss.
What's your earliest memory of engaging with drag?
BOSS: My first memory is my little brother watching RuPaul’s Drag Race – I never really paid much attention, but would watch it every now and then. I was then out at Heaven (one of London’s largest and most famous gay clubs) and met Shangela. She is now a very good friend, but at the time I had no clue who she was! She showed me clips of herself on the show and then I started properly watching it with my brother. Now I can’t get rid of the RuPaul girls, haha.
What was your biggest challenge as an up-and-coming performer?
BOSS: I think consistency plays a huge part. You have to be consistent with EVERYTHING: communication, performances, shows, looks…it’s a lot! But if you really want it, you’ll enjoy every step.
Who helped you out along the way? Any teachers, mentors, or peers that deserve a shout-out?
BOSS: Two people that played a huge part in my journey were my Middlesex University teachers, Louise and April. I was a bit of a nightmare student at first, I’ll admit. But they truly helped to shape my career and my work ethic! I owe a lot to them.
How do you feel when you're on stage?
BOSS: I feel on top of the world!!! I feel so powerful, like nothing can get in my way.
What's the best (and worst...) thing about performing your Drag Brunch at Komedia Brighton?
BOSS: Being in Brighton just makes me so happy! That sea breeze does wonders for the skin. Having a drag brunch in Brighton – THE Gay City of the UK – absolutely warms my heart. Little 15-year-old Boss is so proud.
The best thing about Komedia is how bloody lovely all the staff are! They put up with my craziness and always have such good energy! I’m very grateful for such a lovely team. The worst thing is how moreish the food is, haha.
Finally, for those who have never attended a Drag show before, what's the etiquette?
BOSS: Never leave a Drag show before it’s finished!!! Of course be respectful of the performers. Let them do their thing while you just sit back and enjoy. Bring the energy, you can cheer, scream, and clap during the show. But don’t talk over me when I’m hosting or I will pick on you, haha. Boss Brunch is about forgetting all the madness of the world and coming together to get silly for a few hours. We’re basically one big unhinged, dysfunctional family.
So, there you have it. We hope to see you soon at the HOTTEST Drag brunch ready to leave you gagged!
