Blow Up

Blow Up, the London club that is now in its 32nd year returns to Brighton for a second event of 2025 since the 1990s at the Komedia Friday 10th October 2025. This will be a club event which Blow Up founder Paul Tunkin will DJ plus live guests The Forty Fours who have just signed to Blow Up Records.

Blow Up, a bona-fide legendary club night at the centre of the mid-Nineties Brit Pop explosion, cited as the catalyst and birthplace of the Britpop scene, influencing the style and sound of a generation. Blow Up was voted No.4 in Time Out’s Top Ten Clubs of the 90s, described as one of ‘5 Classic Clubs of Our Time‘ by Vox Magazine (alongside The Blitz Club, Shoom, The Roxy) and as ‘The club that changed the world’ by Melody Maker. Describing Blow Up in Time Out’s London Calling book as “the breeding ground of the Brit Pop sound” and in NME’s Original’s Blow Up was listed as a Top Ten Britpop Moment. In July 2022 Time Out once again listed Blow Up as one of the greatest London clubs of the past 40 years.

Blow Up has also hosted and performed at events around the UK and internationally over the years, including across Europe, USA, Russia and Japan. Whilst the Blow Up club compilations (‘Blow Up A-Go-Go!’ and ‘Blow Up presents Exclusive Blend’) have increased the reach of Blow Up around the world.

Blow Up was founded and launched by Paul Tunkin 16th October 1993 at the upstairs function room of a Camden Town pub the Laurel Tree. After just a few months, Blow Up had become the epicentre of a seismic musical and stylistic change in what was later called the Britpop scene. From its origins at the Laurel Tree, Camden Town (1993-1996) to Soho venues the Wag Club (1996-2001), the Metro Club (2002-2009 – the Metro which Paul Tunkin co-ran with former Wag Club manager Alan Campbell). Blow Up maintained a weekly London club event interspersed with various one-off events. Post the Metro Club’s closure Blow Up took up weekly and monthly residences in various venues including Bar Rumba, 4 Denmark St and Peckham’s Bussey Building followed by a weekly five year Friday night residency at the St Moritz Club, Wardour St Soho (2015-2020) once again interspersed with occasional monthly events including the Troubadour London. Blow Up ran continuous weekly events until the nightlife lockdown in 2020 and returned for a three night residency at Vout O Reenee’s London (Oct – December 2022). November 2023 saw the first part of the Blow Up 30 year celebrations with a sold out club and live event at Jamboree Kings Cross. Whilst in May 2024 saw Blow Up take to the roof terrace of members club the Century in Soho as part 2 of our 30th celebrations.

In 2025, Blow Up has held events in Brighton, Southend, London and Colchester, returning to all these cities in Autumn 2025 into 2026.

The Forty Fours

Blow Up Records is pleased to announce the signing of The Forty Fours to the label.

The London based group The Forty Fours, formed in Cornwall as teenagers where they have become a highly regarded Rock ‘n’ Roll three piece on the local live scene. They demonstrate a consummate display of vocal harmonies and raw Rhythm and Blues instrumentation. In recent months they have moved to London where they are now set to shakedown the capital.

They take their musical influence primarily from traditional Blues and Merseybeat and the sound of the Sixties British Invasion. To date, they have been mixing their original songs and covers into a high energy live experience which they are now set to distil into studio recordings for a debut single and album for Blow Up in the coming months. In the meantime, check them out live as they are set to perform at the forthcoming Blow Up club events in 2025 including the Blow Up 32nd anniversary in London and at other locations.

What people are saying...

Many thanks for ‘Let The Sun Shine In’ – we had a great night, thank you to the staff who were excellent!

It was such a fantastic night! All the staff involved were so lovely and friendly, they made us feel at ease and were on hand for anything we needed.

I’m having a Madonna day today and it’s bringing back just how EPIC Madonna night was. I think it was the most fun I’ve had in my 30s, and I’m nearly 40.

We came here on the night of Brighton pride and had an amazing time. Lovely, clean venue with really friendly staff and saw it was clearly accessible.

Great place to see bands. Not too big . Not too small. Excellent views plus TV screens in all areas. Disabled parking in the street behind. Good eateries locally after gig.

Komedia continues to have club nights that suit all ages. It is a brighton institution that should be revered.
