Chaps & Straps – Queer Line Dancing

Chaps and Straps is a space for LGBTQIA+ people to come together and DANCE. Throughout the evening you’ll learn three dances, with each lesson lasting for around 30 minutes, with plenty of open dance floor in between to practice, play, and let loose. Expect a mix of country classics and queer pop anthems.

Our events are completely beginner-friendly and open to all levels of confidence, experience, and enthusiasm. Your only job at Chaps and Straps is to enjoy yourself, there is never any pressure.

Dress up if you fancy it – think cowboy hats, denim, leather – or just come as you are.

This event is created by and for LGBTQIA+ people. We especially welcome our Trans, Intersex, and Non-Binary siblings – your presence is valued and celebrated here. Our dances are taught with options to suit different gender expressions and are designed to help you connect with your body with joy.

We know coming along can feel a bit intimidating — if you’ve got any questions at all, drop us a message on Instagram @chapsandstraps 💌

PRIDE SPECIAL – 31ST JULY:

We are beyond excited to be bringing Chaps and Straps to Komedia on Friday 31st July Brighton Pride weekend 2026!

In an increasingly tourist heavy and corporate backed city, Pride can often feel disconnected from the communities it was built by and for. Chaps and Straps is our invitation to slow down for a moment, find community, and share some good old-fashioned queer joy on the dance floor.

Throughout the evening you’ll learn three dances, with each lesson lasting around 30 minutes, with plenty of open dance floor in between to practice, play, and let loose. Expect a mix of country classics and queer pop anthems.

Our events are completely beginner-friendly and open to all levels of confidence, experience, and enthusiasm. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or have never stepped foot in a line dance before, your only job at Chaps and Straps is to enjoy yourself. There is never any pressure.

Dress up if you fancy it — think cowboy hats, denim, leather, rhinestones — or just come as you are.

This event is created by and for LGBTQIA+ people. We especially welcome our Trans, Intersex, and Non-Binary siblings — your presence is valued and celebrated here. Our dances are taught with options to suit different gender expressions and are designed to help you connect with your body with joy.

Whether you’re coming with friends, flying solo, visiting Brighton for the weekend, or looking for a break from the crowds, you’ll find a warm welcome here.

What people are saying...

The host Lee Peart was the perfect compere – warm, funny, with a sharp eye for detail. He mingled and toyed with the audience enjoying himself and singing along himself. He is perfect for the job. All in all we had a fabulous afternoon. Fed, watered and happy, we sang, danced, and had a few giggles.

We didn’t take much encouragement to get up and dance, it was a great party atmosphere.

The team working with us on Saturday were brilliant – special thanks to Steve, our engineer, who was fantastic.

You’ve got an excellent team working there and the event went very well. Please pass along our thanks to everyone working last night.

Everyone was so kind and supportive to me. I had really a fabulous time performing at Komedia.

Thank you all for an amazing show last night. We had a blast performing and working with you all. Thanks also to Taylor and Dylan and wow we love your security guards.

My birthday at the Komedia was FANTASTIC. Your staff are all incredible and super friendly. Special shout out to Brogan who sorted out the band and DJs and was just so lovely. 10/10 all round.

Just want to say a big thank you to Komedia and the staff, especially the security who were very professional. Everyone at the venue made my job easy and I was so relaxed before the show.

Many thanks for ‘Let The Sun Shine In’ – we had a great night, thank you to the staff who were excellent!

It was such a fantastic night! All the staff involved were so lovely and friendly, they made us feel at ease and were on hand for anything we needed.

Thanks to the team for supporting us with our event yesterday. Steven and Taylor were great and made everything easy and enjoyable. We had a good crowd and the whole thing was a real success from our point of view.

I wanted to say a massive thank you for hosting my son and I in the Studio. I was so impressed by the kindness, efficiency, and professionalism of all the team at Komedia. Everything was perfect – the sound, the room, and all of the staff.
