Rosie Brown Band + The Reed Conservation Society

The ROSIE BROWN BAND celebrates 25 years since the release of their debut album, BY THE BLUE, which garnered glowing praise in the music press of the day (“Superior musical minds following their hearts” * * * * Mojo; “Spellbinding… deliciously poetic” HMV Choice), and invited comparisons with the likes of John Martyn and Nick Drake.

The 5-piece band, which a quarter of a century later still operates in its original, close-knit line-up, are currently working on their fifth studio album, and this special anniversary show will feature a selection of songs from across the years. Their style remains hard to pigeon-hole: “I’ve been absolutely knocked out by this… Superb. It’s kind of a mixture of folk and jazz, but it’s impossible to describe. I am genuinely lost for words.” Frank Hennessy, BBC Radio.

“Elemental, sensual…evocative of Les Paul backed by Goldfrapp” * * * * Q. “A slice of hallucinatory Americana” * * * * Mojo Rosie Brown (vocals, guitar), Bernd Rest (guitar, vocals), Simon Russell (bass, vocals), Paul May (drums), Markus Marageter (keyboards). They welcome Parisian band THE REED CONSERVATION SOCIETY, whose latest album, released in June, will be hot off the press. Stéphane Auzenet and Mathieu Blanc are joined by their long-time rhythm section Cédric Bermond and Nicolas Pain. Their music will delight those who appreciate the likes of the Beatles, Belle & Sebastian, The Divine Comedy, the Kinks, with flavours of Sheller and Les Innocents.

What people are saying...

A big Thank You to Poppy, the manager, and the rest of the team at ABBA Gold last night. She was super helpful with me and my friend, who is in a wheelchair, and made it a fantastic night that we both really enjoyed. We hope to be back again soon.

As someone who works in the live music industry, I can honestly say Komedia is one of the best mid-sized venues I have visited. It has a wonderful atmosphere, outstanding acoustics, and a team that clearly knows how to run a venue. The Great Escape is always a highlight of the music calendar, and Komedia was one of the standout venues for me this year. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Brighton, whether for live music, comedy, or other events. A truly excellent venue and one of Brighton’s cultural gems.

The team working with us on Saturday were brilliant – special thanks to Steve, our engineer, who was fantastic.

I love the venue and am grateful to you for having me back!

Staff were all very friendly and welcoming… the sound and lighting were brilliant and a great evening was had by all attending.

Great intimate live music venue. Not your usual gig beers, good selection of Lager, Cider and Ale.

I wanted to say a massive thank you for hosting my son and I in the Studio. I was so impressed by the kindness, efficiency, and professionalism of all the team at Komedia. Everything was perfect – the sound, the room, and all of the staff.

It was honestly the best concert experience I’ve had in a long time! Since being chronically ill, I’ve never felt completely welcome at venues. […] Komedia made me feel completely comfortable and confident in myself during the whole show! […] Although I traveled from London, I will most definitely be returning when I can, choosing it over London venues!

Lovely, intimate venue. Great sound system. Perfect for small concerts.

What a superb venue. I have been several times. Always a warm welcome and a safe space to enjoy the artists that are more “left field” than other more mainstream venues.

Cracking little venue, intimate, great acoustics, friendly staff, middle of town, nice beer selection, fair prices. What more could you want?

Great place to see bands. Not too big . Not too small. Excellent views plus TV screens in all areas. Disabled parking in the street behind. Good eateries locally after gig.
