Ashley Slater’s Heptet

Ashley Slater, UK funk and jazz legend, is back with a brand new band to wow you. This six-piece powerhouse is built around blistering Czech Hammond wizard Jan Korinek and drum star Oli Lipenský, joined by Ashley on trombone and vocals, Filthy Six trumpeter Nick Etwell, Brighton tenor hero Julian Nicholas, and the hardest-working baritone in showbiz, Nichola Pope.
You’ll know Ashley from Loose Tubes, Microgroove, Freak Power, Big Lounge and Kitten and The Hip. After accidentally emigrating to Germany five years ago, he’s thrilled to return with this shiny new sonic gem.
Think Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker, but with more mischief. Or as Ashley puts it: Gerry Mulligan with better drugs.
Expect tunes from Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Benny Golson, Grace Jones, Freak Power and Big Lounge, plus originals. Bring your voice, and maybe some spoons.

What people are saying...

I love the venue and am grateful to you for having me back!

Staff were all very friendly and welcoming… the sound and lighting were brilliant and a great evening was had by all attending.

Great intimate live music venue. Not your usual gig beers, good selection of Lager, Cider and Ale.

I wanted to say a massive thank you for hosting my son and I in the Studio. I was so impressed by the kindness, efficiency, and professionalism of all the team at Komedia. Everything was perfect – the sound, the room, and all of the staff.

It was honestly the best concert experience I’ve had in a long time! Since being chronically ill, I’ve never felt completely welcome at venues. […] Komedia made me feel completely comfortable and confident in myself during the whole show! […] Although I traveled from London, I will most definitely be returning when I can, choosing it over London venues!

Lovely, intimate venue. Great sound system. Perfect for small concerts.

What a superb venue. I have been several times. Always a warm welcome and a safe space to enjoy the artists that are more “left field” than other more mainstream venues.

Cracking little venue, intimate, great acoustics, friendly staff, middle of town, nice beer selection, fair prices. What more could you want?

Great place to see bands. Not too big . Not too small. Excellent views plus TV screens in all areas. Disabled parking in the street behind. Good eateries locally after gig.

Komedia continues to have club nights that suit all ages. It is a brighton institution that should be revered.
